여러분은 어찌하여 하나님께서 죽은 사람을 살리시는 것이 믿지 못할 일이라고 생각하십니까? 한때는 저 역시 나사렛 예수의 이름을 반대하는 일에 온 힘을 쏟아야 한다고 확신했던 사람입니다. 제가 예루살렘에서 했던 일이 그런 일이었습니다. 저는 대제사장들에게서 권한을 받아 많은 성도들을 감옥에 가두었습니다. 그리고 그들을 죽이는 일에 찬성했습니다. 저는 회당마다 찾아다니면서 여러 번 그들을 처벌했으며 강제로 예수님을 저주하게 했습니다. 그들을 향한 저의 분노가 어찌나 심하였던지 저는 다른 도시에까지 찾아다니면서 그들을 박해하기도 했습니다. 그러다가 한번은 대제사장들에게서 권한을 위임받아 다마스커스로 가게 되었습니다.

Today's Word

Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead? I too was convinced that I ought to do all that was possible to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth. And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. On the authority of the chief priests I put many of the Lord's people in prison, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. Many a time I went from one synagogue to another to have them punished, and I tried to force them to blaspheme. I was so obsessed with persecuting them that I even hunted them down in foreign cities. On one of these journeys I was going to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests.
