사도행전 개론 (1) – 사도행전의 서론과 배경

I. 누가와 그의 두 번째 책

누가는 누구인가?

누가는 의사이며 세밀한 역사가였고, 사도 바울의 가까운 동역자였습니다. 그는 예수님을 직접 만나지는 않았지만, 처음부터 모든 일을 자세히 조사하여 데오빌로에게 질서 정연하게 기록했습니다. 누가복음에서는 예수님의 삶과 죽음, 부활에 대해 다뤘고, 사도행전에서는 그 이후의 이야기를 이어갑니다.

누가복음이 예수님께서 “행하시며 가르치기 시작하신 모든 일”을 보여준다면, 사도행전은 예수님께서 성령을 통해 교회를 통해 계속해서 행하신 일들을 보여줍니다.

핵심 구절: “오직 성령이 너희에게 임하시면 너희가 권능을 받고, 예루살렘과 온 유대와 사마리아와 땅끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라.” (사도행전 1:8)

II. 사도행전의 목적과 수신자

누가는 누가복음과 사도행전 두 권 모두를 데오빌로라는 인물에게 썼습니다. ‘데오빌로’는 “하나님을 사랑하는 자”라는 뜻을 지니며, 실존 인물일 수도 있고 신자들을 대표하는 상징적 이름일 수도 있습니다. 누가의 목적은 분명했습니다. 독자들이 자신이 배운 것들이 확실하다는 것을 알게 하려는 것이었습니다 (눅 1:4).

사도행전에서 누가는 예수님의 사역이 성령의 능력으로 사도들을 통해 어떻게 계속되는지를 강조합니다. 또한 복음이 유대인에게만이 아니라 모든 민족에게 열려 있음을 보여주며, 하나님의 구속 계획의 보편적 범위를 드러냅니다.

III. 사도행전의 구조와 내용

사도행전은 총 28장으로 구성되어 있으며, 예수님의 승천(A.D. 30년경)부터 사도 바울이 로마에서 투옥되기까지의 약 30년간의 초대교회 역사를 다루고 있습니다. 주요 내용은 다음과 같이 나뉩니다:

• 1–2장: 예수님의 승천, 마가의 다락방에서의 기도, 오순절 성령 강림, 베드로의 첫 설교
• 3–7장: 예루살렘 교회의 성장과 박해, 스데반의 순교
• 8–12장: 사마리아 및 이방인 지역으로의 복음 확장, 빌립과 베드로의 사역, 바울의 회심
• 13–21장: 바울의 세 번의 선교 여행, 교회 개척과 반대

이 흐름은 사도행전 1:8의 지리적·주제적 틀을 따릅니다. 즉, 복음이 **예루살렘 → 유대와 사마리아 → 땅끝(로마)**으로 확장되는 구조를 가집니다.

IV. 왜 사도행전을 공부해야 할까요?

사도행전은 단지 과거의 기록이 아닙니다. 오늘날 모든 그리스도인에게 신학적 비전과 영적 도전을 제공합니다:

• 성령의 역할: 성령은 능력을 주시고, 말씀하시며, 인도하시고, 보내시는 인격적인 하나님이심을 보여줍니다.
• 증인의 삶: 평범한 남녀가 박해 가운데서도 담대하게 예수님의 증인이 되는 삶을 살게 됩니다.
• 교회의 본질: 교회는 제도나 건물이 아니라, 성령에 의해 인도받는 선교 공동체입니다.
• 하나님의 선교: 복음은 문화, 민족, 사회적 경계를 넘어서며, 모든 사람을 향한 하나님의 마음을 나타냅니다.

V. 묵상을 위한 질문

1. 나는 일상 속에서 어떻게 예수님의 증인으로 살아가고 있습니까?
2. 나는 성령님의 능력과 인도하심에 얼마나 의지하고 있습니까?
3. 내가 속한 공동체는 하나님의 선교에 어떻게 동참하고 있습니까?

VI. 결론: 오늘날 우리에게 주는 사도행전의 의미

사도행전은 단순한 역사 기록이 아니라, 예수님의 사명이 승천 이후에도 멈추지 않았음을 보여주는 신학적 증언입니다. 그 사명은 성령을 통해 평범한 제자들을 통해 계속되고 있습니다.

우리가 사도행전을 읽으며 교회의 탄생을 바라보는 것에 그치지 않고, 그 이야기 안으로 참여하도록 초대받고 있습니다. 초기 교회를 세우셨던 동일한 성령께서 지금 우리 안에도 역사하십니다. 세상을 뒤흔든 동일한 복음이 오늘 우리를 담대한 증인의 삶으로 부르십니다.

이 말씀의 여정을 시작하며, 우리의 마음이 배우는 데 열려 있고, 우리의 삶이 순종할 준비가 되어 있으며, 우리의 공동체가 예수님의 사명을 살아내는 데 열정적이기를 소망합니다.

 

 

Introduction to Acts (1) – The Prologue and Background of Acts (En/Ko)

I. Meet Luke and His Second Volume

Who Was Luke?

Luke was a physician, a detailed historian, and a close companion of the Apostle Paul. Although he never met Jesus in person, he carefully investigated everything from the beginning and wrote an orderly account for Theophilus. After writing the Gospel of Luke, which focuses on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, he continued the narrative in the book of Acts.

Where the Gospel of Luke shows what Jesus “began to do and teach,” Acts reveals what Jesus continues to do through the Holy Spirit and the church.

Key Verse: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

II. The Purpose and Audience of Acts

Luke wrote both his Gospel and Acts to Theophilus, whose name means “lover of God.” The identity of Theophilus is uncertain—he could have been a high-ranking Roman official or a symbolic representation of any believer. Either way, Luke’s intent was clear: to provide a trustworthy account so that readers may have certainty in what they believe (Luke 1:4).

In Acts, Luke emphasizes how the work of Jesus continues through the apostles by the power of the Holy Spirit. It also demonstrates that the gospel is not limited to Jews but is offered to all nations, fulfilling the universal scope of God’s redemptive plan.

III. The Structure and Content of Acts

Acts consists of 28 chapters, covering roughly 30 years of early church history—from Jesus’ ascension (around A.D. 30) to Paul’s imprisonment in Rome (around A.D. 60). The book can be divided into five major sections:

• Ch. 1–2: Jesus’ ascension, prayer in the upper room, Pentecost, and Peter’s first sermon
• Ch. 3–7: The growth and persecution of the Jerusalem church, and Stephen’s martyrdom
• Ch. 8–12: The gospel spreads to Samaria and the Gentiles, including Philip’s and Peter’s ministries, and Paul’s conversion
• Ch. 13–21: Paul’s three missionary journeys, church planting, and opposition
• Ch. 22–28: Paul’s arrest, trials, and journey to Rome as a witness of the gospel

This narrative follows the geographic and thematic framework of Acts 1:8: the gospel progresses from Jerusalem to Judea and Samaria, and finally to the ends of the earth (symbolized by Rome).

IV. Why Study the Book of Acts?

Acts is not just a record of the past. It provides a theological vision and spiritual challenge for every believer today:

• The Holy Spirit’s role: He empowers, speaks, guides, and sends—revealing His personal presence and indispensable role in the Christian life.
• A life of witness: Ordinary men and women become bold witnesses for Jesus, even amidst persecution.
• The nature of the church: The church is not an institution but a Spirit-led, missional community that lives out the gospel.
• The mission of God: The gospel crosses cultural, ethnic, and social boundaries, showing God’s heart for all people.

V. Reflection Questions for Meditation

1. In what ways am I living as a witness of Jesus in my everyday life?
2. How much do I rely on the Holy Spirit for power, guidance, and boldness?
3. How is my community participating in God’s mission to reach the world?
4. What steps can I take to become a more Spirit-led and mission-minded disciple?

VI. Conclusion: The Relevance of Acts for Today

The book of Acts is more than a historical record—it is a theological testimony that the mission of Jesus did not end with His ascension. It continues through the Holy Spirit working in and through ordinary believers.

As we begin this journey through Acts, we are invited not only to observe the birth of the church but also to participate in its ongoing story. The same Spirit who empowered the early disciples empowers us today. The same gospel that turned the world upside down continues to call us into bold, Spirit-filled witness.

May our hearts be open to learn, our lives ready to follow, and our communities eager to embody the mission of Jesus “to the ends of the earth.”
