유대인들이 바울에게 대답했습니다. "우리는 아직 유대로부터 당신에 관한 어떤 편지도 받은 적이 없습니다. 또 유대로부터 온 우리 형제들 중에서 당신에 관한 나쁜 소문을 전하거나 당신을 나쁘게 말한 사람도 없습니다. 우리는 다만 당신 생각을 듣고 싶습니다. 우리가 알기로는 어디를 가도 당신 종파에 대해서 반대하는 사람이 많다고 합니다."

Today's Word

They replied, "We have not received any letters from Judea concerning you, and none of our people who have come from there has reported or said anything bad about you. But we want to hear what your views are, for we know that people everywhere are talking against this sect."

They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining about the kingdom of God, and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets he tried to persuade them about Jesus. (Acts 28:21-23, NIV)

Background

Paul finally arrived in Rome, the center of the known world and a place he had long desired to visit. Though he came as a prisoner, Paul was allowed to live in his own rented house. Three days after his arrival, Paul invited the local Jewish leaders to meet with him.

Surprisingly, the Roman Jews had received no charges or negative reports about Paul from Jerusalem. God had prepared the way for Paul to share the gospel in Rome. The Jewish leaders were curious about Christianity, which faced opposition everywhere, and wanted to hear Paul's explanation.

Paul didn't miss this prepared opportunity. On the appointed day, even more people gathered, and Paul witnessed about God's kingdom and Jesus from morning until evening without rest. This wasn't merely a lecture but a thorough Bible study proving Jesus as the Messiah through the entire Old Testament.

2. Arm Yourself with the Word: Paul could testify about Jesus all day through Scripture because he had studied and meditated on the Word his entire life. We too need to know the Bible deeply to effectively share the gospel. Maintain consistent quiet times, participate in Bible studies, and memorize Scripture. Prepared people can seize opportunities.
3. Share with Perseverance: Paul shared the gospel without rest from morning to evening. Sharing the gospel sometimes requires long time and patience. People's hearts may not change through one or two conversations. Don't give up; continue praying and lovingly share truth whenever opportunities come.

1. Is there someone around you showing interest in the gospel? Have you had deep conversations about faith with them?
2. If someone asked "Please explain the Jesus you believe in," how convincingly could you answer based on Scripture?
