그리스도께서는 율법이 우리에게 씌운 저주를 거두어 가셨습니다. 그리스도께서 우리를 대신해서 저주를 받으셨습니다. 성경에도 이렇게 적혀 있습니다. "나무에 달린 사람은 다 저주를 받은 것이다." 그리스도께서 그렇게 하신 것은 하나님께서 아브라함에게 약속하신 복이 이방인들에게도 미치게 하기 위함입니다. 이 복은 예수 그리스도를 통해 옵니다. 예수님은 우리로 하여금 하나님께서 약속하신 성령을 믿음으로 받게 하기 위해 죽으셨습니다. (갈라디아서 3:13-14, 쉬운성경)

배경 설명

바울은 갈라디아 교회 성도들에게 중요한 진리를 가르치고 있습니다. 당시 거짓 교사들은 "예수님을 믿는 것만으로는 부족하고, 유대인의 율법도 지켜야 구원받을 수 있다"고 가르쳤습니다. 특히 할례를 받고 음식 규정을 지키라고 강요했습니다.

Today's Word

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole." He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. (Galatians 3:13-14, NIV)

Background

Paul is teaching the Galatian church a crucial truth. False teachers at that time claimed, "Believing in Jesus alone is not enough; you must also follow Jewish law to be saved." They specifically demanded circumcision and adherence to dietary regulations.

However, Paul refutes this as completely wrong teaching. The law cannot save us. Rather, the law served to show us how sinful we are and placed us under a curse, because no one can keep the law perfectly.

But Jesus took this curse upon Himself by dying on the cross. Crucifixion was the most shameful and cursed form of execution in that era. Jesus, though sinless, bore our sins and curse, dying on the cross in our place. This is what we call 'substitutionary atonement.'
