¹ 갈라디아 여러분들은 예수 그리스도께서 십자가에서 죽으셨다는 사실을 분명히 알면서도 남에게 속았으니, 어리석기 이를 데 없습니다. ² 이 한 가지만 대답해 보십시오. 여러분은 어떻게 성령을 받았습니까? 율법을 지켜서 받았습니까? 아닙니다. 복음을 듣고 믿었기 때문에 받은 것입니다. ³ 성령 안에서 살기 시작하다가 이제 와서 다시 자기 힘으로 살려고 하다니, 여러분은 참으로 어리석습니다. ⁴ 그렇게 많은 고난을 경험했는데도, 그 모든 것이 다 헛일이었습니까? 그렇지 않기를 바랍니다. ⁵ 여러분이 율법을 지켰기 때문에 하나님께서 성령을 주셨습니까? 아닙니다. 여러분이 율법을 지켰기 때문에 하나님께서 여러분 가운데서 기적을 일으키셨습니까? 아닙니다. 하나님께서 성령을 주시고 기적을 일으키신 것은 여러분이 복음을 듣고 믿었기 때문입니다.

¹ You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. ² I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? ³ Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh? ⁴ Have you experienced so much in vain—if it really was in vain? ⁵ So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?

Background

False teachers had infiltrated the Galatian churches, teaching that faith in Jesus alone was insufficient and that believers must also keep the law. This caused great confusion among the believers. Paul reminds them of when they first heard the gospel and believed in Jesus.
